Georgetown man charged with attempted murder after stabbing, gunfire near Milton

A Georgetown man was arrested Monday and charged with attempted murder following a May 22 incident near Milton, Delaware State Police said.

Police said Jerome L. Weathersby, 48, was involved in an altercation with a man and woman on West Springside Drive, just east of Harbeson in an area off of Route 9. During the altercation, police said, Weathersby stabbed the woman in the hand before firing multiple rounds at their car as they attempted to flee. He struck their vehicle with three bullets, police said.

The woman was treated at an area hospital for a hand injury from the stabbing. The man was uninjured.

Police identified Weathersby as the suspect and arrested him Monday. He was charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault and other weapons charges and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $173,500 cash bond.
